Our office manages and overseas all aspects of VA benefits provided to service members and their dependents attending the University of Connecticut. From certification of courses to clarifying the VA process and benefits, our staff works to ensure your benefits are utilized as seamlessly as possible. With a new certification process coming on board later this fall and increases in our staff due to the VA Work Study program, you can expect a professional and experienced office to handle all your VA benefits needs.
The following VA Chapters are directly certified by our office to the VA and we encourage you to stop by to learn more:
Chapter 30 – The Montgomery GI Bill
Chapter 33 (Veterans) – The Post 9/11 GI Bill
Chapter 33 (Dependents) – The Post 9/11 GI Bill transferred to Dependents
Chapter 35 – Survivors and Dependents Assistance
Any students using Chapter 30, Chapter 31 (VR & E), Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits), or Chapter 35 (DEA) will have their tuition adjusted to the in-state rate, if they are out-of-state students, for the duration of the time they are using those VA Benefits. Once those VA benefits are exhausted, the tuition rate will be reverted to the out-of-state tuition rates for out-of-state students.
Students who are eligible for a Veteran’s Tuition Adjustment pay the cost of in-state tuition. As a result, the Office of Financial Aid Services will adjust a student’s UConn merit scholarship and/or University Grant funding to the in-state award amounts.
Other Considerations for VA Benefits:
- Self-Verification – required for ALL students using VA Benefits
- STEM Scholarship – for students using Ch. 33 Benefits in STEM programs
- Approved Programs
- Yellow Ribbon Program
- VR & E Benefits – unsure if you qualify?
