About the Veterans Advisory Council:
The Veterans Advisory Council (VAC) serves as a separate body to provide input, suggestions, guidance and assistance to the University of Connecticut’s Office of Veterans & Military Programs and thereby to the veterans and all military-affiliated students at the University of Connecticut. The Council is designed to provide representation of veterans from a variety of constituency groups, including students, faculty and staff. It is believed that by providing such assistance to UConn’s Office of Veterans & Military Programs, the veterans and military-affiliated students attending UConn will receive the support programs required for success in higher education, and, in turn, UConn will continue its development as a national leader in student veteran support. The Council provides advice about programs, services, and initiatives designed to support veterans and military-affiliated students at UConn, shares insight into their needs and interests, and offers perspective on issues that affect veterans and their families in the context of higher education, in addition to making recommendations about ways the University can best support the success and well-being of all UConn veterans and military-affiliated students. In particular, the Council also provides advice about how UConn can recruit and retain student veterans, help them transition to academic life, and assure they succeed and graduate.
