About UConn’s Office of Veterans & Military Programs
The Office of Veterans and Military Programs provides a supportive environment for all veterans, members of the military, and dependents who attend UConn. You can find us in Hawley Armory, where you can get assistance with benefits and resources.
The Veteran Community encompasses nearly 1,500 students, staff and faculty who are:
- Current Active Duty military and members of any of the uniformed services
- Current members of the Air or Army National Guard
- Current active or inactive Reservists of any of the armed services
- Those who have previously served in any capacity in the uniformed services
- Spouses, children, and any other dependents of any current or prior member of the uniformed serves
- Certify and Advise on Educational Benefits – GI Bills, Waivers, etc.
- Credit for Military Service, Credit for Overseas Service
- Advise and assist on military transfer credit cases (in conjunction with admissions)
- Provide feedback, testimony, and response for all military or veteran related items in every state legislative session
- Transition Assistance from Service Member to Student
- First Year Experience – Military and Veterans Sections
- Collaboration with the VA/Vet Center/External Benefits and Resources
- Business Partnerships, Internships, and Employment
- Social & Community Events (Veterans’ Day Ceremony, Colossal Colors, Military Appreciation Games with UConn Athletics, Networking Events, Husky Run and Ruck, Donation Drive and more.
- Provide General Information Briefings to VFW, American Legion, Veterans’ Organizations, Sub Base, Businesses, and others
- Veterans History Project – UNIV 1881 Course – Interview Veterans
Applying for Benefits
If you are applying to the University of Connecticut and are planning to use benefits please check out the detailed checklists we’ve put together based on the type of benefit you’re using.
In order to utilize benefits, completion and submission of the Form D is required prior to the UConn fee bill deadline of an upcoming term (Note: this must be submitted for each semester a student wants use benefits). Students will not be processed for benefits without the completion and submission of this form:
Did you know? UConn waives the application fees for veterans and active military . . . .
The University of Connecticut waives the application fees for veterans and those currently serving in the military, for both the undergraduate application and the graduate school application. Please refer to the website for Undergraduate Admissions or the Graduate School for more information.
- The Connecticut state law requires Connecticut state colleges to waive tuition for wartime veterans (1) honorably discharged from active service, (2) accepted for admission to the institutions, and (3) residing in Connecticut at the time of acceptance.
Credit for Military Service
Students can receive credit for military training in addition to some credits for military service. Detailed information is available on our webpage for Credit for Military Service.
Veterans (OASIS) Lounges
UConn has Student Veterans lounges located at each of the campuses for military-affiliated students to use for studying and connecting with fellow military-affiliated student.
