Marine Gunnery Sergeant John D. Fry Scholarship – Fry Scholarships | Veterans Affairs (va.gov)
The Fry Scholarship is an amendment to the Post-9/11 GI Bill (chapter 33) that makes education benefits available to the children of service members who die in the line of duty after Sept. 10, 2001. Like Post-9/11 veterans, eligible children attending school may receive up to the highest public, in-state undergraduate tuition and fees, plus a monthly living stipend and book allowance under this program. Eligible children are entitled to 36 months of benefits at the 100% level and they have 15 years to use the benefit after their 18th birthday. The benefits may be used until their 33rd birthday. Children underage 18 cannot use this benefit even if they have completed high school. They are not eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Applicant must be a woman who has served or is serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, Army National Guard or the child of a woman who served honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard. Go to the website listed above for the application information.
The Bonzagni and Thomas Families Scholarship – https://www.hfpgscholarships.org/
Deadline = March 14
Award amount of $1500-3,000 to 1-2 applicants. Designated for graduating high school seniors, adult learners or graduate students who meet all or most of the following criteria:
- Active military, military veteran, first responder, or other public safety personnel (detention, corrections, probation, parole);
- or who are the child of active military, military veteran, first responder, or other public safety personnel (detention, corrections, probation, parole)
- Graduating high school senior, adult learner, or graduate student
- Reside in the 29 town Greater Hartford region
- Have demonstrated financial need
- Have been involved with volunteer, community service, work, and/or extracurricular activities
- Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in and/or a desire to pursue a degree in fields such as:
Agriculture Farming Natural Sciences Ranching
Conservation Horticulture Ornithology
Environmental Studies Natural Resource Management Outdoor Recreation

Willis N. Hawley Service & Leadership Award

This award ($1,000) recognizes individual student veterans who have made significant contributions to the University community through leadership and service during their tenure as a student.
Additional Award Criteria:
• Recipient(s) will have student veteran or reserve status.
• Recipients may be graduate or undergraduate.
• Recipients may attend any of the six UConn campuses.
• Recipient(s) will have demonstrated a commitment to raising awareness and actively advocating for veterans’ issues at the University.
• Recipient(s) will have demonstrated a significant contribution to the University community through involvement in initiative(s) that have had University-wide impact and is representative of the highest level of student leadership and involvement.
• Nominees must not have been on any form of academic probation during the past academic year.
• Nominees must not have been found in violation of any University policy during the past year.

Eligible applicants include veteran and active servicemen (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve) of both pre- and post-9/11 service, and their dependents, who wish to start, further, or finish their education (especially those whose benefits have run out or exceeded need). Applicants may pursue undergraduate, graduate, two-year, four-year, public, private, vocational, and trade degrees or certifications. Applicants will be evaluated on unmet financial need, educational and career ambitions, length of service, record of personal achievement, essay question responses, and demonstration of service to others in the community and a desire to continue such service. This is an endowed fund for undergraduates which will provide scholarships of $2,000-7,000 each year for up to three undergraduate students.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
- Academically outstanding undergraduate enrolled full time in the UConn College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS).
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Mathematics major or intending to declare a Mathematics major.
- Citizen or a legal resident (i.e., a Green Card holder).
- Preference is to be given to persons who are in the ROTC program or have served in the military.
- A student is eligible to hold the scholarship in either or both of their last two academic years at UConn.
- Applicants must have completed at least four math courses at the 2000+ level before the semester in which they would hold the scholarship.
- Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.4 and a minimum GPA of 3.6 in math courses at the 2000+ level.

Those eligible to apply for the scholarship shall be the child/children or legally adopted child/children or a child of a spouse by a prior marriage or dependent child as defined by the United States Armed Services of active duty United States military and National Guard, and military reservists who were federalized and die on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. The applicant must be a high school senior or high school graduate to apply for the scholarship. Scholarship is for undergraduate study at an accredited institution of higher education within the United States. Go to the website listed above, for the application.

AMVETS annually awards scholarships to veterans/active military, their sons, daughters or grand-children. A son, daughter or grandchild of a deceased veteran is also eligible. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need, the scholarships go to deserving high school seniors, high school JROTC students and veterans pursuing a higher education. National Guard Association of CT (NGACT) Scholarships – ngact.org/scholarships

Award amount of $1,000 per scholarship (3 scholarships given each year). To be eligible, applicants must be a member of the National Guard Association of Connecticut, or they must be a dependent of a member of the National Guard Association of Connecticut.

SVA is thrilled to offer several scholarships, totaling more than $160,000, through the help of corporate partners, including General Dynamics, Google, NBCUniversal, PNC, Disney, and BP. The deadlines vary throughout the academic year.

CSPI is a program designed for motivated individuals who demonstrate a high caliber of academic and leadership excellence and who desire to serve their country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Students who are accepted into this scholarship program will be enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard, complete basic training during the summer, and receive full funding for up to two years of college.
UConn Education Abroad Scholarships for U.S. Armed Forces Veterans – https://abroad.uconn.edu/procedures/post911gibill/
This UConn Education Abroad scholarship is available to UConn students committed to study abroad programs who have served or continue to serve in our Armed Forces and are registered with UConn Veteran’s Affairs and Military Programs. Veterans will be automatically awarded $2,500 in scholarship support if they commit to a semester-long study abroad program and $1,000 if committed to a summer program. There is no application for this scholarship; students just need to indicate their veteran status on their study abroad application. This scholarship can be applied to the costs of any type of UConn-approved study abroad program and can cover Program Fees, Study Abroad Fees, tuition, and other study abroad-related costs as long as they are billed through UConn.

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for undergraduate child dependents of active-duty military who are in the process of applying to, or accepted for a study abroad or internship program. Any interested students at UConn who may be eligible for this award should also contact the Education Abroad office at UConn for assistance with this scholarship application.
